Before arriving to the US in 2001, Yoshiko worked in a small production company in Kumamoto, Japan. She experienced the video making process by doing everything from being a camera and lighting assistant to a tape-to- tape linear editor. In 2002, Yoshiko was offered the opportunity to intern at Pixel Envy in California. At the same time, she studied Fine Arts at Santa Monica College. When Pixel Envy split into two companies, Entity FX continued to hire Yoshiko. She was soon made a key staff member, working on TV shows such as “Smallville” – a VFX driven HD TV show on CW network. In 2004, Yoshiko visited New York and fell in love with the city. After “Smallville” celebrated its 100th episode, she moved to New York and started freelance work in some of New York’s most esteemed post-production houses working on numerous commercials and films. At the same time, she continued working on major film productions in Los Angeles. In 2007, she worked with the legendary SFX/VFX guru Richard Edlund of “Star Wars,” and on “Charlie Wilson’s War.” Later, Mr. Edlund honored Ms. Hirata by supporting her US permanent residency visa (green card) petition and her Visual Effects Society membership. Because of Yoshiko’s efficiency and attention to detail, she is one of the most indemand VFX artists working in the US today. She continues to serve the biggest and the best.
